一年生草本，高60-90厘米。茎直立，有分枝。叶互生，卵形或卵状披针形，长8-15厘米，宽3-7厘米，先端尾状渐尖，基部楔形，边缘有圆锯齿，齿端有小尖，基部边缘有数个具柄腺体，侧脉6-8对，叶柄长2-5厘米。花梗较短，腋生，中上部有卵形苞片，仅1朵花；花大，长达4厘米，黄色；侧生萼片2，宽卵状圆形，渐尖，边缘有粗齿，少有全缘，背面中肋有狭龙骨突；旗瓣圆形，背面中肋龙骨突呈喙状；翼瓣无柄，2裂，裂片披针形，先端有细丝，背面有小耳；唇瓣囊状，基部延长成内弯的短距，距2裂；花药钝。蒴果条形，先端有长喙。
产湖北（咸丰、鹤峰、利川、巴东、兴山、神农架、恩施、竹溪、保康、应山、咸宁等）、重庆（城口、南川金佛山）、贵州（江口、大方、盘县、雷山、梵净山等）、陕西（商县、略阳）、湖南（武冈）、河南（南召、西峡、内乡、浙川）。生于山沟溪边、林下草丛中，海拔1000-2700米。模式标本采自湖北巴东。

Plants annual, 60-90 cm tall. Stem erect, branched. Leaves alternate; petiole 2-5 cm; leaf blade ovate or ovate-lanceolate, 8-15 × 3-7 cm, with few stipitate glands at basal margin, lateral veins 6-8 pairs, base cuneate, margin crenate-serrate, teeth mucronulate, apex caudate-acuminate. Inflorescences axillary, 1-flowered; peduncles short. Petioles bracteate above middle; bracts ovate. Flowers yellow, large, to 4 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, broadly ovate-orbicular, margin coarsely dentate, rarely entire, apex acuminate, abaxial midvein narrowly carinate. Lower sepal saccate, constricted into an incurved spur; spur short, 2-lobed. Upper petal orbicular, abaxial midvein cristate; lateral united petals not clawed, 2-lobed; basal and distal lobes lanceolate, apex with a filamentous long hair; auricle inconspicuous. Filaments short; anthers obtuse. Ovary fusiform. Capsule linear. Seeds oblong or orbicular, ca. 3 mm. Fl. Jul-Aug, fr. Sep.
