Noteworthy Characteristics:

This cultivar of epimedium is a clump-forming perennial which typically grows 12-16" tall and is primarily used as a ground cover or edger in shady or woodland areas. Tama No Genpei features long-spurred, bicolored flowers (reddish-purple and white) which appear in spring above the foliage and superficially resemble a bishops hat. Compound (biternate to triternate) medium green leaves with toothed, triangular to heart-shaped leaflets (to 3" long) on wiry stems form dense foliage mounds. New leaves in spring emerge purplish maturing to green. Epimediums are commonly called bishops hat or barrenwort.

Problems:

No serious insect or disease problems.

Uses:

Edging plant for walks and borders. Ground cover for shady areas. Group or mass in woodland gardens, wild gardens or naturalized areas. Grows well under trees.
