General Culture:
Easily grown in dry to medium wet, well-drained soil in full sun.
Noteworthy Characteristics:
Globe thistle is a large 4 tall plant, with golf ball-sized steel blue flower heads atop strands of rigid stems with deeply lobed, dark green, thistle-like foliage. Excellent cut and dried flower. Tolerates hot and humid summers.
Problems:
No serious problems. Staking may be required, particularly if plant is grown in rich soil. Plants can be left undivided for years. Needs moisture in growing season, but can tolerate some drought since plant roots go deep.
Uses:
Provides good color and contrast in the perennial border, especially toward the back, or in the cut flower garden.
