Easily grown in average, medium wet soils in part shade to full shade. Prefers consistently moist, humusy soils rich in organic matter. Soils should not be allowed to dry out.

Noteworthy Characteristics:

Linearis Polydactyla is a male fern cultivar which typically grows 3-4 tall. Semi-evergreen in warm winter climates, but basically deciduous in the St. Louis area. Fronds are large (to 4 long), but retain a certain airy appearance because the pinnae are very narrow and well-spaced with segments reduced in size and sometimes missing. Tips of the pinnae and fronds are multi-forked and almost finger-like.

Problems:

No serious insect or disease problems.

Uses:

Naturalize in woodland or shade gardens.
