General Culture:

Easily grown in average, medium wet, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Tolerates some drought. Wide range of soil tolerance.

Noteworthy Characteristics:

SUMMER STARS is a dwarf bush-honeysuckle selection introduced by the Morton Arboretum near Chicago. It is a densely-branched deciduous shrub that slowly grows to 3 tall and 4 wide. Panicles (cymes) of yellow trumpet-shaped flowers (to 1" long) in late spring to early summer. Pubescent, ovate to oblong-lanceolate, opposite, nearly sessile leaves are dark green. Fall color ranges from non-existent to pleasing yellow-red. The species grows to 6 tall and is native to the Appalachian Mountains in the southeastern U. S. (North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee). Morton is the original cultivar name of this plant, however it is being marketed under the name of Summer Stars.
